Do you have what it takes to be a tutor?

Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes & Practices

Now that you have obtained your Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related  Achievement the next logical step is to obtain your Internal Verifier qualification.

As a Training Provider …The EnergyWise Academy will only employ Internal Verifiers who have completed this qualification.

The main job of the IV  is very different to that of the tutor and the Assessor.

In the vocational training sector Quality Assurance is the means through which systems, policies and procedures are monitored and evaluated.

Its purpose is to ensure that delivery and assessment of qualifications is in line with awarding organisation guidelines and that all assessors deliver a standardised level of assessment practice regardless of the assessment content.

Quality assurance not only ensures that standards are being met, but also provides guidance when they are not. Through regular quality assurance , organisations are better able to pre-empt problems, support staff and learners, and identify their training needs.

The role of the IV is to to design and implement the following practices:

  • Verification of the theory assessment procedures
  • Verification of practical assessments
  • Observation of teaching delivery
  • Learner support
  • Administrative practice
  • Tutor/assessor guidance and support

The internal verification system is supported by regular external verification (EV). In contrast to the IV, who is employed by the training provider, the EV is employed by the awarding organisation.

Having all three Quality Assurance qualifications subjects will make you much more attractive to prospective employers and in short …means you are far more employable.

There are not nearly enough assessors and Internal Verifiers available.

Who is this course for?

This course is for candidates who already hold the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement

As above …the Internal Verifier has a totally different role to the tutor and assessor. On any one course the IV cannot also be the tutor or the assessor.

Their function along with the external verifier is to ensure that training providers are compliant with awarding organisation standards, assessments practices and quality assurance strategies.

The IV will devise a sampling plan according to the experience of the tutor and assessor.

The IV is there to assess the processes and not the learners.

The IV may choose to interview any learner to establish whether or not standards are being met.

The main skill which an internal verifier needs, is to be organised and also to be discreet when carrying out their duties. They are not required to be present throughout the entire duration of any course but will sample a selection of elements according to the qualification specifications.

The internal verifier is the link between the training provider and the awarding organisation.

How is this course structured?

This course is usually completed face to face, however there is always scope to complete it via blended learning online if you live further afield.

If you would prefer to complete this course via blended learning, please call us on 0131 669 8888 to discuss.

There are two units in this qualification as shown below:

Learners must complete both mandatory units.

Unit #1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment

The unit is assessed by completion of worksheets.

Unit #2: Internally assure the quality of assessment
Assessment
The aim of this unit is to assess the learner’s performance in assuring the quality of assessment from
within an organisation or assessment centre.

All learning outcomes in this unit must be assessed using methods appropriate to the learner Internal
Quality Assurance (IQA’s) performance.

These must include:
• observation of performance
• examining products of work
• questioning

As you would expect our team at The EnergyWise Academy will give you guidance on how to access and /or set up IV assessment situations which are relevant to your existing qualifications.

In other words you can only be an IV – Internal Verifier for a subject in which you hold a professional qualification plus considerable industry experience.

Why train with The EnergyWise Academy?

My name is  Fiona Brown and I have been in the health &  fitness industry for more than 30 years and have been a tutor/ teacher trainer for more than 20 years.  I have  worked in Scotland  for most of that time and when looking for staff in 2000 to help train my ever increasing client list in my Personal Trainer studio , I became increasingly frustrated at the lack of quality training courses north of the border.

When I opened my Pilates Studio in 2002 the situation was worse! It seemed the only way to obtain a quality Pilates qualification was to travel to London.  That was when I took the decision in 2003 to establish my own accredited training academy. After two long years during which I will admit I was on the steepest of learning curves The EnergyWise Academy was born in 2005.

There are very few, if any, training providers in Scotland who can claim to have taught Group Exercise classes for more than 20 years …trained more than 5,000 PT clients appointments over 11 years, building a team of Personal Trainers,  before selling the business to concentrate on building The EnergyWise Academy. Additionally teaching Mat Pilates classes and 1:1 Pilates for ten years, before writing their own REPs accredited Level 3 Mat Pilates qualification. ( I am staggered myself at the list of years ..if you add  them all together I should actually be 100 years old …but most of them happened simultaneously.)

Over the last fifteen years I have hand picked a select team of tutors and assessors all of whom are still active within the health &  fitness industry …each and every one of them are still out there, teaching classes to the public, something we are very proud of. With a collective 200 years experience in health & fitness.

Since establishing The EnergyWise Academy as Scotland’s leading training provider we have a unique status in being the only training provider in this country who can offer all four of the current Level 3 Qualifications plus the full suite of Quality assurance qualifications.

Most providers either specialise in Fitness or Pilates …we do both and have recently added Yoga and Exercise Referral to our portfolio.

What else makes us exceptional? All of our Tutors and assessors are still actively teaching the general public on a daily basis. We walk  our talk …it’s not all about the theory from a textbook or manual. We have our own premises with dedicated classroom space …you’ll never have to sit on a floor while learning!

I am proud to have earned my title of T.E.G. or technical expert, having written the Level 3 Mat Pilates qualification for a major U.K. Awarding Body, reviewed their Personal Trainer qualification, Advanced Exercise to Music qualification and piloted their Ante/Post Natal Award along with contributing to their Level 2 Gym instructor manual. I have also been invited to numerous SkillsActive standardisation meetings for the development of all fitness qualifications to meet the NOS – National Occupational Standards.

During your training course you will obviously study the regular syllabus of the Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes & Practices …which we cover in great depth …however we have also added an invaluable component which gives you real life experience of IV procedures.

Our reputation is second to none!
